The Attack

The Ambush The Arrow An arrow hits the man's leg. He fires a flare into the window. The archer screams. The man later enters the house and finds a woman trying to cover the burning man. The man leaves without helping. The Woman's Curse The woman curses the man. He does not harm her. The archer is badly burned, his face and chest charred. The man assumes he will die. The Escape The man and boy flee the town. They hide in a store building. The man stitches his wound. They never see the archer again.

The Aftermath

The Consequence The Man's Reflection The man thinks about the archer, but he feels no guilt. He was defending himself and the boy. The boy is troubled by the violence. The Boy's Question The boy asks if the man is dead. The man says probably. The boy is silent. The violence is another scar on his psyche. The Memory The archer becomes another figure in the boy's memory, a faceless enemy. The man hopes the boy will forget, but he knows he won't.
